Proportional valve calculation

prop_control_00

Calculations Notes:

  • The formulas and algorithm of calculations you can find by this link.
  • Pressure compensated pump with variable displacement is used as a source of pressure and flow.
  • The spool lands work as orifices and have the same shape on both sides of the spool land.
  • The same orifice coefficient (Cv) is used for both lands.

Inputs:

Generic input data
Work pressure
Pump max flow
Pressure drop in the return line
Cylinder extension: Result force at the rod
Use positive (+) value if the Result force is pushing the rod
Use negative (-) value if the Result force is pooling the rod
Cylinder Retraction: Result force at the rod
Use positive (+) value if the Result force is pooling the rod
Use negative (-) value if the Result force is pushing the rod
Cylinder data
Piston Diameter
Rod Diameter
Cylinder Stroke
Cylinder’s max. work pressure
Proportional valve data
Nominal valve flow @ 100% valve open
Rated pressure drop per land @ nominal flow
Max valve flow rate
Valve’s spool lands ratio (A:B), rs: :1
Control signal range
